My $3 Headboard

We recently upgraded to new garage doors. My husband was about to haul the old ones to the trash when I stopped him in his tracks. I had plans for them. They would make a great country style headboard for the guest room.

I painted the guest room and made the headboard today. I still need to get new bedding but the old stuff will have to work until I get an awesome deal on a new set.

The old doors. I spent $3 on some white craft paint. I mixed it with water to make a color wash and put a light coat on the door.

The result is.........

Magazine Rack turns Towel Holder

(This bathroom is getting new flooring ASAP!)


I came across a basket weave magazine rack at a yard sale a little while back. I was not sure what I needed it for but I was sure I would not use for magazines. I kept it around for a couple of months before I realized what it would be great for- TOWELS!

I rolled up three towels and sit it in my bathroom floor. I love it!

Old Item New Use

Bakers racks are very versatile and can be great in homes in need of additional storage space. Most people limit the use of bakers racks to the kitchen or dining room. I tend to think outside the box and use items for things other than they were intended for.

I was able to pick up this old kitchen bakers rack at an auction for $35. I did not even think of the kitchen when I was bidding on it. I knew it would be perfect in my little girls room. I added a few shoe box size storage tubs to organize her hair accessories.

Nest time you are out at a estate sale, auction, or yard sale have an open mind. You just might find a new use for an old item.

Homemade Bow Holder

I found this old charming medicine cabinet door in the trash and thought it would make a cute bow holder. I tacked on a hanger on the back and glued on some ribbon to clip the bows to.

I LOVE Pieces of My Heart Wood Crafts!

I love their items that are created from weathered barn wood and other people’s “junk”. They make recyled crafts that are so cute and super affordable!

I currently have a coffee table, end tables, a wall shelf, and several other items made by them. I look forward to buying many more things!

End of the year teacher gift.

This year I let the kids make their teachers, para educators, principal, and speech pathologist a gift. We made personalized flower post with ivy clippings off of my ivy plants. The teachers loved them!

The Ultimate Trash to Treasure

There is a couple of ladies who live in Lakin, Kansas who bring all new meaning to the words trash to treasure. They are know as the garbage queens. They can take junk and make the cutest things out of it. Lisa who is a school teacher jokes about people dropping misc junk off in her class room. They make the most darling benches out of old headboards. In their spare time they go to craft shows to sell their creations. My husband and I are fortune to get to see them this time of year. We are always happy to have a booth right beside them.

Old windows get a new life with a little wood in the panes and some cute snowmen painted own.

Who knew an old beat up bucket could be so cute? I love their handpainted snowmen. If you look the bucket is sitting on one of the bences made out of recycled material.

Stick Riding Reindeer

I am gearing up for the yearly Christmas Craft Fair that I have a booth at. Last year we sold corn heating bags, marshmallow guns, and homemade candy. This year I want to do something that is a little different.

I am making these cute little stick riding reindeer. here are a few pictures of them. I have not added the reins yet but will soon. I only have this one made and plan to get a few more done in the next week. I am not really sure how many I should make. I am hoping that with all the toy recalls people will be looking to buy toys made right here in America.

A few weeks ago I posted on how to make a fake tombstone. I finally got all of mine made and put in the front yard.

Cute way to recycle old carpet

We are currently in the process of laying tile in our kitchen and bathroom. That meant a lot of carpet pieces. I was thinking about ways to recycle it when I thought about my Grandmother. She loves to work in the garden and could use a new knee pad.

I took a small piece and cut it to the size that I wanted using a box knife and painted it with acrylic craft paints.

Recycle broken crayons

Recycle those broken up crayons in minutes.

Peel off all paper and break into small pieces. Put a few pieces n each hole of a muffin tin. I used a mini muffin tin. Add enough to cover the bottom.

Pop in the oven at 300 degrees for 5 minutes or until melted. then throw them in the freezer for 10-15 minutes until set. Turn over and tap to remove them.

Don't Throw it Away!

Is your rubber spatula getting rough on the edges? Does it no longer scrape like it used to? You can add life to it by trimming off 1/4 of an inch of it with scissors.

Pony Tail Holders

Got a ton of pony tail holders? Keep them organized by slipping them on a empty toliet paper roll. You can see all of them by color and slip off the one you need without digging through a pile of them.
